Karim Benzema has named the surprising player who he thinks is as good as Leo Messi
Still not being called up in the France national team by coach Didier Dechamps, Karim Benzema released his new documentary about his life published on TV station Canal Plus on Sunday.
The Real Madrid striker hasn’t featured in any match for Les Bleus since October 2015, in a match in which he scored a brace and assisted for a goal.
The former Lyon man is desperate to be called again before the World Cup in Russia, and hopes the French supporters will back him up by putting pressure on Dechamps.
However, he has scored only one goal in La Liga this season, and that’s not good news for him if he wants to convince Dechamps he deserves a place in the national team.
“It doesn’t annoy me [the debates about Benzema],” said the French coach last week. “It’s part of the media landscape. You are free to do whatever you want, whenever you want. It’s not something that will change my mind or change my ideas about the French team.”
One other topic which grabbed the attention of everyone, is that Benzema actually named a player who he thinks is as good as Lionel Messi.
He named a surprising PSG player as a man he believes has the same level of talent as the five time Ballon d’Or winner.
“Ben Arfa has talent at [Lionel] Messi’s level,” said Benzema. “I am not fooling around. It hurts me to see his current situation at PSG.”
The former Newcastle man hasn’t played a competitive match for PSG since April after being frozen out.
