Chelsea star Hazard talks about his future and aims salty dig at Conte
Eden Hazard has claimed he doesn’t think he will ever go into management – and that attacking players don’t really make good managers.
He did make the point that Zidane certainly makes a good manager, but that for the most part, defensive players find it easier than creative stars when it comes to management – something that does look like a passive aggressive dig at his current manager, Antonio Conte.
“I think management is for defensive players,” he told Soccer AM.
“Because when you see midfielders, strikers or wingers they are not good managers – apart from Zidane.
“Zidane is good, just him.
No, I don’t think so.
“Maybe for kids, but not at a professional club. There’s too many things.
“Cesar Azpilicueta, because he is talking a lot about football would make a good manager.
“Maybe also Gary Cahill.”
Personal form
One think Hazard does need to do is get his personal form back at the highest level, as it seems that he may be one of the best players in the league, but his own personal form isn’t really reflecting that at the minute, and it seems that Manchester City and Kevin De Bruyne.
Chelsea aren’t looking like they can retain their title at the minute, and the form of Hazard is one of the biggest reasons, with the Blues missing him at the start of the season, and now showing that while they can beat the likes of Manchester United, they were far off the pace against the likes of Manchester City – and while they initially looked like they were doing well in the Champions League, dropping four points against Roma was certainly not ideal – and Conte will want his side to build on their win over United once the international break is over.
Eden Hazard tips two Chelsea stars to become future managers
Eden Hazard has tipped Chelsea defenders Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill for future coaching roles after they hang up their boots.
England international Cahill, 31, was appointed as Chelsea’s club captain in the summer following John Terry’s departure, while Azpilicueta was named his deputy.
Both players have made over 200 appearances for the Blues and helped the club win Premier League titles in 2014-15 and 2016-17.
Hazard doubts whether he will go into management after retiring but believes Azpiliceuta and Cahill can land coaching roles.
‘I do not think so,’ Hazard said when asked whether he would consider management.
‘Maybe for kids, but not at a professional club. It is too many things.’ Pressed on which Chelsea team-mates could make the leap from playing to management, Hazard added:
‘Cesar Azpilicueta, because he is talking a lot about football. Maybe also Gary Cahill.
‘I think they can both be good. I think managers are more for defensive players because when you see all midfield, the striker and the winger are not good managers. Apart from Zinedine Zidane!’
Hazard missed the start of the current campaign after undergoing surgery over the summer but has impressed in recent weeks, scoring braces for both Chelsea and Belgium.
The 26-year-old helped the Blues beat Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Stamford Bridge before the international break and will hope to make an impact when the team return to action with a trip to West Brom next weekend.
