Luis Suarez has finally revealed the real reason why he’s playing more in the wings than in the center
Luis Suarez has struggled so far this season, with Barcelona dominating La Liga and their Champions League group in the early stages of the campaign.
The Uruguayan striker is clearly out of form, having gone 451 minutes without a single goal for his side.
But that hasn’t stopped Barca from going top of La Liga as they look to reclaim their crown from Real Madrid.
Currently, the Catalans lead the table with 31 points after 11 matches, four points more than Valencia who sit second.
The Blaugrana registered another important victory against Sevilla at the weekend, with Paco Alcacer scoring two goals in the 2-1 win.
We are seeing Suarez often drifting out on the left or the right side of the pitch – which were previously covered by Neymar and later Ousmane Dembele, who is out injured.
But according to Suarez, he drops left or right with the wish of himself and not manager Ernesto Valverde, believing is for the good of the team.
“Obviously when there was a player in Ney’s class it was different, but it’s not the coach who sends me to play on the left,” said Suarez, speaking to Sport.
“It’s me who does it, if I see that nobody is there. The coach knows where I can perform, what is my position, understands where I feel most comfortable.
“If I appear on the left it is because I see there is space and possibilities, it is not because of a system. Many times I make moves trying to benefit some of the teammates.”
