Great News: Chelsea move ahead of Arsenal and Barcelona in the race for German Superstar
Chelsea and Liverpool have moved to the front of the queue to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka in the summer, according to reports from Spain.
Barcelona-based publication Sport claim that the German international is likely to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League once his contract with Schalke expires at the end of the season.
Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the highly-rated player, yet Sport report that he is willing to snub a move to the European giants by moving to the Premier League.
Although Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs were said to be the English teams leading the chase for Goretzka, Antonio Conte’s side have emerged as a potential destination for the player.
While many expected the 22-year-old to join either Barcelona or Munich, comments from Olivier Bierhoff last week suggested he would be heading to England in the summer.
Bierhoff, speaking ahead of Germany’s friendly with England, said: “We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sane and [Schalke’s] Leon Goretzka are moving to England [or to another country] and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game.
“We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”
Would Goretzka be a good signing for Chelsea? Let us know in the comments section below.
